Firstly a big welcome to Alfie, Marty and Jamie for their first Hassocks game, who all played very well.
The day started with Paul trying to get his hoody off and ending in a Balotelli bib moment! that’s how we began the 1st half, all over the place!
The 1st half I want to forget quickly as although we had the lions share of play two simple balls over the top gave Cuckfield their first two goals, it was sloppy by our centre backs and something to work on in training as we know they are better than this , plus it was also very disappointing because it took 20 minutes for us to make a challenge, by this time we were 2-0 down.
At HT we had a serious word about commitment and the boys realised it, not one word was spoken.
The 2nd half is where the fun began.
In the 2nd half we must have had 15-20 shots and eventually an Olly C mazy run produced a lovely finish, 2-1.
Then after a number of corners and further pressure we won a free kick, Charlie J delivered a perfect ball and again Olly C popped up and slid the ball in at the back post 2-2. Well done Olly.
Charlie J was delivering quality balls into the box from set pieces all day but we just couldn’t convert, there was also a clear handball and we should have had a penalty but the ref missed it.
We were all over them and with 10 minutes to go Conor fought hard to create a little space for himself in the box and unleashed a bomb of a shot which hit the bar and rebounded 25 yards! Great shot Conor and so unlucky.
We were like a big wave, with break after break but the ball not falling for us in front of goal, however not for the will of trying, so I was happy the commitment issue was corrected.
Cuckfield to their credit came back at us at 2-2 and Marty made some good saves and could have easily spilled the ball but it stuck firm. Well done Marty.
Well done to Olly C today for the two goals and Charlie J for the quality of deliveries. Well played Luca and Wez for fighting in the middle of the park in the 2nd half which brought us back into the game.
All debutantes did very well, Jamie played well alongside Conor, Alfie gave the Cuckfield left back nightmares and Marty kept a clean sheet.
A mention for Aaron and Callum who are both injured but came to support us, please listen to the physio’s lads and get better soon.
Paul chose MOM today; He chose Logan as he played well at right and left back, showed determination and organised the back 3 at the end of the game and made no mistakes.
I feel it’s two points dropped but the big games are versus Lindfield and Hurst, so it changes nothing. As the saying goes every cloud has a silver lining and Hurst lost to Crawley Down 1-0, so my glass of red wine will taste a little better. 😉.
Thanks to Jason for running the line.
