Hassocks Juniors FC ethos

Ethos “the set of beliefs, ideas, etc. about the social behaviour and relationships of a person or group:”

The Hassocks Junior committee think it important that the club has a clear ethos. Every decision we make for the club should be linked back to this ethos. And our adherence to this ethos should be how we measure our success as a club, not results on the field.

The five words that sum up the club’s ethos are; Enjoyment, Inclusivity, Welfare, Development and Performance.

Everything we do needs to come back to one of these five keywords.

Enjoyment

We want to see smiles on all the kids’ faces when they train and play. We also want our Coaches and parents to be happy, and to see Hassocks Juniors Football Club as a positive experience in their, and their child’s life.

Inclusivity

Hassocks Junior FC believes that Football is for everyone. This is about making sure everyone has a chance to be involved in football, regardless of age, gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, marital status, race, nationality, ethnic origin, colour, religion or belief, ability or disability.

Welfare

Hassock Junior accepts it has a clear responsibility towards the welfare of all the young people associated with the club. We need clear guidelines and processes for ensuring that everyone knows how to report concerns about a child’s welfare, and dealing with poor practice issues in the club.

Development

Our primary focus is Development. This includes all the players and the coaches. How can we become better at what we do, and encourage to the kids to develop into better players, teams and hopefully individuals?

Performance

League football serves purposes in two of the other key areas, the kids enjoy it, and a sure way of tracking the development of your side is to look at your results. But the score at the end of a game, and the table at the end of the season are not everything. We want to enable everyone to perform to the best of their ability. Part of this is to ensure that our players are performing at the right level, in the right teams, leagues and competitions to bring out their best.
